Hello International Traders!
This is a special occasion, since you're looking at the 100th issue of Really
Useful Sites for International Trade Professionals. It's hard to believe that
I've actually written 100 issues, but the evidence is there if you go to the archives
( http://www.fita.org/useful/archives/index.html ). Since I always profile at
least four Web sites in every issue, that means I've reviewed more than 400 sites
since I began writing this newsletter. There's a wealth of useful information
in the archives, and I urge new subscribers to spend some time there -- it'll
help your business in the long run.
And by the way, we recently reached another milestone -- we now have more
than 100,000 subscribers!
In this issue I take a look at Peru, a country with a growing
economy and lots of opportunities for trade. Next, I've got a
site that's the gold standard for international business
research. And, if you're thinking of buying a digital camera, I
have a site that will give you the facts you need to make the
best decision. Finally, I have a site where you can get older
versions of popular software programs -- and you can get these
time-tested "golden oldies" for free!
If you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's
International Trade/ Import-Export Portal ( http://fita.org ), an excellent
source for trade leads, news, events, and a link library of 7,000 sites related
to international trade.
| PERU -- OUR FEATURED COUNTRY SITE
Peru has a history of trade going back to at least the Inca, who carved a 150
mile route through the Andes to trade with their neighbors. These days, Peru has
a groving economy with many trade opportunities, chalking up US $8 billion in
both imports and exports in 2003.
If you want to find out more about Peru, go to the U.S.
Commercial Service Country Commercial Guide to Peru ( http://www.buyusainfo.net/info.cfm?id=121160
). This site has everything you need to get started: detailed information on
the country's political environment, economic trends, trade regulations, and
investment climate, plus a schedule of trade events, business contacts, and
much more.
There are many more links to Peru at the FITA site. Go to http://fita.org/webindex,
click on Regional Resources and Multi-Lateral Trading Areas in the left column,
then scroll down to Latin America & Caribbean and click on Peru in the drop-down
box. Or simply type "Peru" in the search box at http://www.fita.org.
And FITA's
Global Bookstore has some good books about doing business in the region.
Take a look at Doing
Business in the New Latin America : A Guide to Cultures, Practices, and Opportunities
and the Peru
Business & Investment Opportunities Yearbook.
GLOBALEDGETM -- THE BEST IN RESEARCH
When I first started writing about international business
Web sites back in 1996, I raved about the quality of the MSU-CIBER
site. Created by Michigan State University's Center for International
Business Education and Research, MSU-CIBER was the gold standard
of international business sites. Not long ago the site was revamped
and renamed globalEDGETM ( http://globaledge.msu.edu
), but it's still as useful as ever. Whatever you need -- country
profiles, statistics, market research, international news, trade
leads, company directories, trade law information, trade show
calendars, language tools, financial data, travel tips, and
more -- you'll find it here. This is THE site for international
business information -- in fact, if you search on the phrase
"international business" on Google, Yahoo, or MSN, you'll find
globalEDGETM near the very top of your search results.

YOUR PERSONAL GUIDE TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY -- VISIT HERE BEFORE YOU BUY
Since my family is so hopelessly old-fashioned, according to my children, that
we don't own a digital camera, I finally decided to purchase one. I like to research
products before I buy them, so I found a cool site to get me up to speed on the
world of digital photography. Your
Personal Guide to Digital Photography ( http://www.basic-digital-photography.com
) is an easy to understand site with all the information I need to get started.
Scroll down the page and you'll see tutorials on how to choose a digital camera,
how to shoot better digital photos, how to use photo editing software, and much
more. There are also reviews of popular digital cameras and photo editing software,
and tips for organizing and sharing your pictures.
OLDVERSION.COM -- GOLDEN OLDIES HERE
If you have an older computer, like me, and you don't want to buy a new one, you
probably can't run the newest software. Newer software programs use lots of memory
and processing power, and they won't run correctly on computers that are even
a few years old. There's hope, however -- OldVersion.com
( http://www.oldversion.com ). This site has older versions of many popular software
programs, and you can download them for free. Older software is usually free of
annoying spyware programs that track the sites you visit on the Web, sending that
information to advertisers who then barrage you with their ads. Some people use
OldVersion.com because they don't like how new versions of software get bloated
with a lot of unnecessary features. Whatever your needs, OldVersion.com is worth
checking out for its golden oldies!
