Hello International Traders! In our reader survey many of you said you wanted to learn more
about Malaysia, so I found a site with dozens of links to quality
information about that Southeast Asian country. I also have a
site with a searchable database of all the passport, visa, and
other documentation you need for hundreds of countries worldwide.
And, I uncovered another gem of a site with market research
information for countries around the globe. Finally, if you're
one of the millions of people who use Microsoft Word, I found a
site that will help you fine tune your Word documents, and make
them sparkle!
If you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's
International Trade/ Import-Export Portal ( http://fita.org ), an excellent
source for trade leads, news, events, and a link library of 7,000 sites related
to international trade.
| MALAYSIA -- OUR FEATURED COUNTRY
Situated in the heart of Southeast Asia at one of the world's
major crossroads, Malaysia has always been pivotal to trade
routes from Europe, the Orient, India and China. Malaysia still
maintains a healthy trade sector, with US $98 billion in exports
in 2003, and US $74 billion in imports that same year. Malaysia
was hit hard by the December tsunami, but the country is on the
road to recovery, with help from its international friends.
If you'd like to learn more about trade with Malaysia, go to
Malaysia: An Annotated Directory of Internet Resources (
http://newton.uor.edu/Departments&Programs/AsianStudiesDept/malaysia.html ), a site published by the University of Redlands. Here
you'll find dozens of links to news, statistics, economic
profiles, government agencies, tsunami relief, the Malaysian
stock exchange, market information, the political landscape, and
much more.
There are many more links to Malaysia at the FITA site. Go to http://fita.org/webindex, click on "Regional Resources
and Multi-Lateral Trading Areas" in the left column, then scroll
down to "Asia" and click on "Malaysia" in the
drop-down box. Or simply type "Malaysia" in the search box at http://www.fita.org.
And FITA's Global
Trade Book Store has a few books about doing business in Malaysia. Check
out especially Malaysia Business Intelligence Report, Doing Business in Asia: The Complete Guide and
Culture Shock!: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at Your Door (Culture Shock! at Your Door).
FRAGOMEN COUNTRY BRIEFS
In these times of heightened national security, many countries
have expanded their entry requirements for visitors. It's
important to know what documents are required before you travel,
and a good place to find that out is Fragomen Country Briefs (
http://www.fragomen.com/resources/cdbase.shtml ). Just click on a
country at this page, and you'll get an excellent overview of the
rules and regulations concerning passports, visas, immigration
documents, corporate applications, and other relevant matters for
that country.

MEDJET ASSISTANCE: PEACE
OF MIND WHEN TRAVELERS NEED IT MOST
http://www.fita.org/travel/medjetdescript.htm
A medical doctor from West Virginia was on vacation with his wife in Rome recently
when they had an extreme medical emergency. As MEDJET Assistance members, they
made a collect call to the 24 hour hotline and received quick assistance.
They wrote, "My wife and I wish to express our deep appreciation for
your rapid and professional response to our medical emergency in Rome. We were
amazed at how you took care of the most minute detail and made it possible for
us to return to medical care in the States as quickly as possible. When we tell
people about our experience and how expertly you handled our return to the United
States they cannot believe that this could be done so expertly and efficiently."
MEDJET Assistance is an annual membership program for U.S-based travelers providing
air medical transportation to its members should they become hospitalized due
to accident or illness virtually anywhere in the world. The program transports
members, free of charge, to the hospital of their choice, most often in medically
equipped and staffed jets. Click on www.fita.org/travel/medjetdescript.htm
to become a MEDJET Assistance member now at reduced FITA rates.
MEDJET Assistance publishes a free brochure, "A Guide To Traveling Smart".
Contact MEDJET Assistance directly at (800) 963-3538
to order it. Make sure to mention FITA to get the FITA discount if you

WORLD TRADE POINT FEDERATION
I've profiled more than 400 trade-related Web sites in the years
I've written this newsletter. but the Internet is so large that I
don't think I've scratched the surface of what's out there. I'm
constantly finding useful sites I didn't know about, like World
Trade Point Federation ( http://www.wtpfed.org/newsite
). This organization, which grew out of a United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development, assists small and medium-
sized companies in 90 countries. You'll find many useful features
at this site, but one of the best is "Market Point" in the left
column. Click on it, and then click on "Country Information", and
you'll find a valuable resource for market research. You simply
select a country, and you'll see a country profile, with links to
economic statistics, guides to doing business in that country,
tax guides, import-export data, and more. In the Market Point
category there are also links to useful contacts, trade-related
sites, and industry information.
WORD ANSWERS
I've been using Microsoft Word software for 15 years now, but
there are still times when I draw a blank when my kids ask me for
advice ("How do I add a table to my science paper?") about it.
That's why I'm glad I found Word Answers (
http://www.word-answers.com/). This site has hundreds of tips for
getting the most out of Microsoft Word, and you're bound to find
something here that will make your word processing easier and
more efficient. Scroll down the page and browse the categories --
Bullets and Numbering, Customizing Word, Formatting, Macros,
Shortcut Keys, Tables, and Templates, to name a few -- and you'll
find a wealth of practical information that will make you an
expert user of Microsoft Word.
