Hello International Traders! In this issue I've got reviews of some of the new features at
FITA's redesigned site. First, I have an introduction to the Mini
Portals, which give you capsule profiles -- and links to much
more -- for 90 countries worldwide. Then, I have a rundown of
FITA's Tools Of The Trade, which is a research gateway to
information that will grow your business. Would you like to
network with the movers and shakers of international trade? I'll
show you how to do just that by using FITA's Member Directory,
which I review in this issue. Finally, I have a site where you
can get local weather forecasts for dozens of countries around
the world.
| CHINA -- OUR FEATURED COUNTRY
In the space of only a decade or so, China has become a major player
in the world's economy. It now accounts for 4 percent of the world's
GDP, and is predicted to keep on growing through at least the early
years of this century. If you want to research trade with China, one
great place to start is FITA's new China Mini
Portal ( http://fita.org/countries/china.html ). Mini Portals are
some of the new features at the FITA Web site.
This Mini Portal has everything you need to start your research on the
Chinese market. There is an overview of the country, with facts about
the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information
about the economy, Chinese markets, taxes, labor market indicators,
tips on doing business in China, and a search engine to help you find
free market research on the Internet.
And that's only the beginning. Click on "China Links" and you'll find
links to a variety of sources for market research, trade leads
(including FITA's China marketplaces from Alibaba and Global
Sources) , business directories, logistics, government
contacts, travel, financing, and lots more. Add to this a news feed
with the latest news from China, and you have a resource that's
unbeatable.
The China Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the newly
redesigned FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or
countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal,
or select a country/region at the FITA home page
(http://www.fita.org/).
FITA's Global Trade Book Store has many excellents books
about doing business in China. Check out Doing Business in China, Doing Business in the New China: A Handbook and
Guide, and China Streetsmart: What You MUST Know to be
Effective and Profitable in China among others. And FITA is
now offering a special free trial of the Wall Street Journal Business Briefing on China.

FITA'S TOOLS OF TRADE
I love saving time as much as I love saving money, which means I
love research gateways on the Web. The concentration of resources
at one site makes it easy to do your research in the shortest
possible time. FITA's redesigned site has many gateways to
international trade information, particularly Tools Of Trade( http://fita.org/tools/ ). On this page you'll find
what you need to run a successful trade business. There are links
to: books and publications about trade; a Global Trade Shop, with
products and services to help you run your business better;
transportation & logistics resources; tips and techniques for
getting started in trade; real-time newsfeeds; trade software;
maps; documentation resources; and much more. Whether you're a
beginner or a seasoned pro, this page will help you achieve more
success in international trade.

FITA MEMBER DIRECTORY
Most savvy businesspeople know that one key to success in
business is networking. You can't do business in a vaccuum, and
the more people you make contact with, the better your chances of
success. One way to network in the international trade arena is
to visit FITA's Member Directory ( http://fita.org/members.html). Here you can search FITA's directory of 450 independent,
international associations. The members of these associations run
the gamut of jobs in the industry -- manufacturers, trading
companies, contractors, freight forwarders, custom house brokers,
airlines, shipping companies, port authorities, banks, and
insurance brokers, to name a few. You can search the Member
Directory for free, and get contact information for local associations,
then get out there, join a FITA member association, and
network!
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICES
With Hurricane Katrina so much in the news, I thought it would be
useful to profile this site that has links to country Weather
Services worldwide ( http://www.wmo.ch/web-en/member.html ). If you're
going to be traveling in the near future, or you know someone
who's going to be traveling, you can use these links to look up
weather forecasts for countries worldwide. Many National Weather
Service sites have storm tracking capabilities, severe weather
alerts, shipping forecasts, and satellite photos, among other
features.
