Hello International Traders! Have you heard about the economic success story of Slovenia? This
Central European country is doing very well, and I've got a link
in this issue to help you research opportunities there. I also
have a link to a site that will save you time and money if you're
a Canadian or American businessperson who deals with goods
shipped into Canada. If you travel a lot, you'll be happy to hear
about the site I found that offers tamper-proof seals for your
luggage. Finally, I have a site that will give you the inside
scoop on how to win cash and prizes in the many contests and
sweepstakes on the Internet. And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about
international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links (
http://fita.org/webindex/index.html ), which has a link library
of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.
| SLOVENIA -- OUR FEATURED COUNTRY
Slovenia is a prosperous country that enjoys the highest GDP per
capita (US $20,900 in 2005) of the transitioning economies of
Central Europe. It joined the EU in 2004, and is considered a
model of economic success and stability in the region. Slovenia
is committed to international trade, and ranked 58th worldwide in
imports and 63rd in exports in 2005.
If you'd like to research business opportunities with Slovenia, a
good site to visit is Slovenia In Brief (
http://www.uvi.si/eng/slovenia/in-brief/ ). This Slovenian
government site has an overview and facts to help you get to know
the country better. There are sections on the culture, economy,
history, holidays, sport, state, and tourism, to name a few.
For business information, Slovenia Partner (
http://www.sloveniapartner.com/article.asp?ID=183&IDpm=3 ), a
Slovenian Chamber of Commerce site, is a good place to visit.
There are details about various industries and business sectors
in the country, and plenty of contact information for
individuals, companies, and government offices in Slovenia.
Another good resource is the Slovenia Mini Portal (
http://fita.org/countries/slovenia.html), one of the new
features at the FITA site. The Mini Portal is a good place to
start your research. There is information about the language,
currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the
economy, Slovenia markets, taxes, labor market indicators, tips
on doing business, and a search engine to help you find market
research on the Internet. Also, the latest headlines from
Slovenia.
Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for
market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics,
government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.
The Slovenia Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at
the newly redesigned FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other
regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from
within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page (
http://www.fita.org ).
FITA's Global Trade Book Store has some excellent books about doing
business in the Slovenia. Check out Doing Business With Slovenia and Culture Smart! Slovenia: A Quick Guide to Customs & Etiquette.

FAST PROGRAM
I'm not a big fan of paperwork, so I'm always glad when I find a
program that promises to eliminate some of it. For businesspeople
in the United States and Canada, the Free and Secure Trade (FAST)
Program ( http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/fast/menu-e.html ) is
a way to eliminate some paperwork and streamline the process for
importing goods into Canada at border crossings. Importers,
carriers, and drivers can benefit from visiting the FAST Web
site, which has information and downloadable forms required for
the program.

TAMPER SEAL
If you've ever discovered after the fact that your luggage has
been tampered with, this next site is for you. Tamper Seal
luggage locks and seals ( http://www.tamperseal.com ) are easy
to use, inexpensive, and airport-security compliant. The locks
can be opened only with a Transportation Security Administration
(TSA) secured access device, and a section of the lock changes
from green to red to let you know. The luggage seals are
individually numbered, fit zippered luggage, and require no
prohibited cutting instruments for removal. These products are
simple to use, and they give you peace of mind when you're
traveling. There are some other interesting travel products for
sale on the site too.
CONTEST GIRL
Anyone who surfs the Net knows there are a lot of online contests
out there. There are pop-up ads screaming "You Won!", e-mail in
your inbox announcing that this is your lucky day, and links on
many sites that promise you'll hit the jackpot if you just enter
this or that contest. I've always been wary of these come-ons,
but there must be some legitimate ones, because Contest Girl (
http://www.contestgirl.com ) says so. This site is run by a
woman who says she's won numerous online contests, and she goes
into convincing detail about it. She tells you her secrets for
success, what she's won, her favorite contests, and how to avoid
getting SPAM as a result of entering the wrong contests. She also
has links to the better contests, and links to sites where you
can get free product samples.
