Hello International Traders! John McDonnell here, with your latest issue of Really Useful Sites for International Trade Professionals.
Wait till you see all the business opportunities there are in Austria -- and I
have a site in this issue where you can get firsthand research about it.
Want to learn more about what's going on in Eastern & Central Europe? I
have a site that's full of solid info about that area. A reader asked for
more information about e-business, so I found a site with all the basics.
Finally, if you want to see the cutting edge of what people are doing with
maps on the Internet, visit the Mapshark site I profile at the end of this
issue. And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about
international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links (
http://fita.org/webindex/index.html ), which has a link library
of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.
| AUSTRIA Our Featured Country
Austria has exported many things over the years, including Vienna waltzes,
strudel, and
Arnold Schwarzenegger. These days, Austria has much to offer the world. The
economy is
humming along, foreign investors are welcome, and things look bright (especially
since
Austria is part of the European Union). Austria was among the top 25 countries
in the
world for both imports and exports in 2006. If this sounds like a country you'd
like to
research, a good site to visit is
AustrianTrade.Org
( http://www.austriantrade.org/austriantrade/worldwide/en/ ). This official
site of the
Austrian Foreign Trade Promotion Organization has lots of information to get you
started.
You can learn about doing business in Austria, look up Austrian products and
companies,
peruse a calendar of trade events, read reports on Austrian industries, learn
about
Austrian culture, get travel and tourism information, and much more.
You'll also find plenty of good research at the Austria Mini Portal (
http://fita.org/countries/austria.html ), a feature of the FITA Web site.
The Austria
Mini Portal has an overview of the country, with facts about the language,
currency,
climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, Austrian
markets, taxes,
labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in Austria.
Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market
research, trade
leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing,
and lots
more.
The Austria Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To
find Mini
Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from
within a
Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page (
http://www.fita.org/).

GROW YOUR PROFITS WITH EBUSINESS GUIDES eBusiness for Small Business
A reader wrote to ask if I could profile a site that has information about
how small
companies can do e-business, and so I found
eBC eBusiness Guides
( http://www.e-bc.ca/pages/resources/ebiz-guides.php ). These are some very
useful guides
to doing business on the Internet, put out by a not-for-profit e-business
resource center
in British Columbia. Scroll down the page and you'll find links to articles that
cover
all aspects of e-business, from planning to execution. There are tips on
planning &
strategy, marketing, building a Web site, selling online, distribution &
fulfillment, and
lots more. The articles are in PDF format, so you can download them to your
computer. The
information is clear and well-written, and covers all bases of developing a
profitable
e-business.And, if you work in a small business, the World Bank's "Doing Business" project has asked FITA to have our readers fill out a survey about business conditions throughout the word. The results will improve the scope of the "Doing Business" program. We hope you can participate. Just click here to do the survey online or click here to download it and the submit it to the World Bank by email. Thank you!

FIND MASHUPS AT MAPSHARK Useful Maps
The word "mashup", which always sounds vaguely sinister to me (or something you
do with potatoes) actually means a Web site or Web application that combines
content from more than one source. You'll find a very useful index to
mashups at Mapshark ( http://mapshark.com ). Mapshark searches mashups of online
maps, which are sites that use the latest online mapmaking technology and
information from search engines like Google, Yahoo, and others to make
custom maps on just about any keyword you type in. Let's say you're looking
for a hotel in Paris, France. Type in "Paris France hotels" and you'll get a
list of sites with various types of maps showing Parisian hotels. If you
type in "Dallas" you'll get a list of maps with the location of Dallas
banquet halls, homes for sale, restaurants, home values and selling prices,
and more. It's fun to browse this site and see what kind of maps you can
find.
