Hello International Traders! John McDonnell here, with your latest issue of Really Useful Sites for International Trade Professionals.
FITA is pleased to announce the FITA China Business Guide, a major new effort to help our subscribers with their business in China. Take a look!
Have you looked at Nigeria lately? It's a country with vast natural resources and a government that is committed to progress and reform. I have a site in this issue that will help you research this promising market. I also found a site that's packed with useful tips about exporting. Also, check out the search engine portal I found -- it will help you target your searches so you hit a bullseye every time! Finally, I have a weather site that will give you maps, traffic reports, Webcams -- more than just the daily forecast! And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about
international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links (
http://fita.org/webindex/index.html ), which has a link library
of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.

NIGERIA Our Featured Country
Nigeria ranks first in Africa in agricultural output, and third in factory output. It is one of the world's major oil exporters, and finished 2005 with a US$26 billion trade surplus. Those reasons, and the fact that the country is undergoing major economic reforms under the new civilian administration, make Nigeria a country worth looking at as a trade outlet.
The WWW Virtual Library Nigeria portal ( http://www.columbia.edu/cu/lweb/indiv/africa/cuvl/Nigeria.html ) at Columbia University is a good place to start your research. This site has links to lots of information about the economy, political system, culture, history, human rights situation, government profile, news and statistics concerning Nigeria. This is a good site to use as a launching pad for your investigation of Nigeria.
You'll also find plenty of useful links about Nigeria in FITA's "Really Useful Links." And the FITA Africa Trade Mini Portal ( http://fita.org/countries/africa.html ), a feature of the FITA Web site, offers a variety of sources for market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more about Africa.
The Africa Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page ( http://www.fita.org).
FITA's Global Trade Book Store has an excellent book about doing
business in Nigeria. Check out Nigeria: The Premier Guidebook For Business Globe Trotters.

USEFUL TIPS AT EXPORT 101 Getting started in exporting
New to exporting? There's a very useful guide at Export 101 ( http://www.foodexportusa.org/export101/ ), and it's bound to answer a lot of your questions. Just click on a category (Market Research, Trade Leads, etc.), and you'll find practical "how-tos" about getting started in exporting. I especially recommend the "Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)" for each topic, because it's full of useful advice. Also, check out the links for each topic -- there are lots of useful links to sites about exporting.
MRQUERY MAKES BETTER SEARCHES Easier Web Searches
It's getting easier all the time to search the Web, especially with all the different kinds of search engines out there. Now here's a new site called MrQuery Can Get It ( http://mrquery.com ) which collects 100 search engines on one page and lets you choose which ones you want to use. The beauty of this is that you can easily find a search engine to fit your needs. There are search engines here for images, videos, blogs, reference, travel, finance, health, classifieds, price comparisons, and much more. MrQuery Can Get It will cut down on your search time and improve your accuracy.
GET YOUR WEATHER REPORT AT WEATHERBONK Extensive Weather Reports
There are lots of weather sites on the Internet, but WeatherBonk ( http://www.weatherbonk.com ) has some interesting features the others don't have. Just type in a location, either in the U.S. or worldwide, and you'll get a weather map with temperatures and weather conditions for the surrounding area. You'll also get a detailed forecast, plus live Webcam pictures. There's also a chart with monthly average temperatures and precipitation for the past year, but that's not all. At the top of the screen are other options, including a nifty one where travelers can map out a route and get the weather for that route (and you'll even get a recommendation of the best time to travel, based on the weather conditions). There's also a traffic reporting map, and a "Power Map" with even more features.
