Hello International Traders! John McDonnell here, with more sites to help you achieve success in international trade.
Have you considered Turkey? It's one of the world's top 40 countries
for trade, and I have a site in this issue that will help you get a
foothold in this growing market. Also, I found a great Irish site to
make up for the one two issues ago that had some problems. Do you
want to keep up on international business news? I have a site that
has up-to-the-minute global news feeds. Finally, I have a search
engine for networking sites, so you can connect with contacts,
customers, and co-workers in the new world of social networking.
| TURKEY Our Featured Country
Turkey is an ancient land with a modern, industrial economy and a democratic government. Its economy made steady progress through the last decade, with GDP growth exceeding 6 percent most years, and a strong trade presence (Turkey is among the world's top 40 countries for imports and exports). It's a country worth researching for trade opportunities, and here's a good site to start your inquiry: The Turkish government's Export Promotion Center ( http://www.igeme.org.tr/introeng.htm ). Here you'll find facts, figures, and overviews of the Turkish economy. You'll find one particularly useful section if you click on "Sectoral Info Pages". These are reports on dozens of Turkish industries that you can download as PDF files. There's also a trade lead database, a calendar of trade fairs, travel tips, information about Turkish Free Zones, useful contacts, and much more.
You'll also find plenty of good research at the Turkey Mini Portal ( http://fita.org/countries/turkey.html ), a feature of the FITA Web site. The Turkey Mini Portal has an overview of the country, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in Turkey.
Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.
The Turkey Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page ( http://www.fita.org ).
FITA's Global Trade Book Store has some excellent books about doing
business in Turkey. Check out Doing Business with Turkey,
Culture Shock! Turkey: A Survival Guide to Customs and Etiquette and Culture Smart! Turkey: A Quick Guide to Customs & Etiquette.
The following associations are FITA member associations. Their sites
offer more resources about doing business with Turkey:

A CORRECTION And Another Great Irish Site
Two issues ago I profiled a site called Ask Ireland, and although the sample of links I checked were working, several readers pointed out that other links on the site do not work anymore. The point of this newsletter is to give you useful sites, so I'm replacing the Ask Ireland site with Enterprise Ireland ( http://www.enterprise-ireland.com ), which is an Irish government site with many useful features. There are lots of links to information about investing in Ireland, starting a business, exporting (for Irish companies), finding Irish suppliers, and more. For further information, there are links to European Union and other Irish government sites.

NETWORKING MADE EASY, WITH WINK Social Networking for Adults
If you're around teenagers, you know that young people are joining sites like MySpace and Facebook by the millions, and linking up with friends in ever more complex networks. But don't be fooled -- online networking is rapidly becoming popular with adults, too, whether for business or personal reasons. Don't believe me? Type a former co-worker's name in Wink ( http://wink.com ), a people search engine, and see what you find. You'll probably be amazed to discover that the guy you haven't spoken to in 15 years has a picture and a profile online, and could be a useful contact for you. Wink sends your query to some of the biggest social networks, and it allows you to search by name, location, interests, school, and more.
