Hello International Traders!

John McDonnell with the latest sites to help your business.

The United Kingdom has one of the world's largest economies, and you'll find plenty of information about it in the site I included here. Also, if you want to know flight information, or anything else about air travel, I have a perfect site for you. If you're looking for global statistics, check out the site I profile in this issue. Finally, I have a site from the World Bank that has a new perspective on country information around the world.

And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links ( http://fita.org/webindex ), which has a link library of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.

UNITED KINGDOM
Our Featured Country

The United Kingdom has a first-class economy with low inflation, interest rates, and unemployment, and a high profile in world trade. In 2006 the UK was 6th in the world for importing, and 8th for exporting. Prospects are good for continued growth in the UK economy, and this is a country you want to do business with if you're involved in trade. If you'd like to research trade opportunities with the UK, check out UK Trade & Investment ( https://www.uktradeinvest.gov.uk ), which is a government site with lots of information. UK-based businesses will find lots of help here for their exporting, and foreign businesses will also find a lot to interest them. Simply click on your area of interest at the home page, and you'll find plenty of links to help you delve deeper. There are reports on UK industries and sectors, news, trends & analysis, services provided by the government to local and foreign firms, useful contacts, and much more.

You'll also find plenty of good research at the UK Mini Portal ( http://fita.org/countries/uk.html ), a feature of the FITA Web site. The UK Mini Portal has an overview of the country, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in UK.

Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.

The UK Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page ( http://www.fita.org ).

The following associations are FITA member associations. Their sites offer more resources about doing business with the United Kingdom:

And click here to search the FITA Member Directory for links to FITA member associations' websites.

OFFSTATS HAS FREE OFFICIAL STATISTICS
All the Statistics You Need

I wrote about this next site way back in 2003, and when I revisited it recently I thought it was worth another mention. OFFSTATS ( http://www.library.auckland.ac.nz/subjects/stats/offstats/ ) is a Web gateway at the University of Auckland, NZ, to free official statistics on the Web, and it's gotten more useful since 2003. You can search by country, region, and topic, and you can find links to statistics on agriculture, housing, crime, health, globalization, energy, cost of living, women, taxes, and education, to name just a few.

Here's an interesting mashup that uses World Bank data and Google Maps.
