Hello International Traders! John McDonnell here with four more sites to help you achieve success
in international trade.
Lithuania continues to be a bright spot among the former Soviet
states, and I have a site in this issue that has plenty of research
on the Lithuanian market. Also, if you want to export to Asia, take a
look at the site I found that will help you do just that. Whatever
your travel plans, you'll find deals and resources at the travel
portal I'm featuring in this issue. Finally, I have a site that does
price comparisons for dozens of products, so you'll find the lowest
price online. And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about
international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links (
http://fita.org/webindex ), which has a link library
of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.
| LITHUANIA Our Featured Country
Lithuania has made rapid progress since it declared its independence
from the former Soviet Union in 1990. In recent years it has
restructured its economy, increased trade with the West, and joined
the European Union. Its GDP grew 7.5 percent in 2006, and prospects
look good for continued growth. If that sounds like a country you'd
like to look into, go to Business Lithuania ( http://www.businesslithuania.lt ), a site with a lot of good resources
about Lithuanian business. Here you'll find statistics, reports,
news, industry profiles, investment opportunities, trade leads, a
database of Lithuanian companies, travel & tourism info, a schedule
of trade events, and much more.
You'll also find plenty of good research at the Lithuania Mini Portal
( http://fita.org/countries/lithuania.html ), a feature of the FITA
Web site. The Lithuania Mini Portal has an overview of the country,
with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more
specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market
indicators, and tips on doing business in Lithuania.
Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for
market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics,
government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.
The Lithuania Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the
FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just
click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA
home page ( http://www.fita.org ).
FITA's Global Trade Book Store has some excellent books about doing
business in Lithuania. Check out Doing Business with Lithuania, Guide to Business Information on Russia, the NIS and the Baltic States and Lithuania - Culture Smart!: a quick guide to customs and etiquette.
The Lithuanian American Business Council is a FITA member association. Their website
offers more resources about doing business with Lithuania.
And click here to search the FITA Member Directory for links to FITA member associations' websites.

GREAT EXPORT RESOURCES AT ASIA NOW Learn to Export to Asia
There's a great resource at Asia Now ( http://www.buyusa.gov/asianow/) for companies who are interested in exporting to Asia-
Pacific countries. This site, run by the U.S. Commercial Service, has
lots of information about 13 Asia-Pacific countries, from Australia
to Vietnam. Just type the name of a country in the search box, and
you'll get a list of links to all kinds of resources. There are
detailed profiles, market overviews, statistics, reports on current
market conditions, upcoming opportunities, industry profiles,
information on the best prospects for exporting to that country, a
country commercial guide, a list of trade events, and additional
resources. The site is oriented toward U.S. companies, but there's
plenty of good information here no matter what country you're from.

MEDJET ASSISTANCE: PEACE OF MIND WHILE TRAVELING AND TRANSLATION ASSISTANCE
http://www.medjetassist.com/fita
Will you be traveling 150 miles or more away from your home, or overseas? In the unfortunate event that are hospitalized, have you assessed medical transportation costs to your home hospital or to a specialty hospital of your choice? One in 30 international travelers will require emergency care, according to The Merck Manual. If you require inpatient hospitalization while traveling within the United States or worlwide, MedjetAssist provides air medical transportation and/or repatriation services. Most traditional health insurance plans do not cover transports and most other travel insurance plans and platinum card benefits will transport you only while traveling internationally and they usually restrict transports to the nearest "adequate" hospital. With your MedjetAssist membership you will be transported regardless of "medical necessity". There are no additional costs to worry about and no limits on the total air transportation expenses. Language barriers can make stressful situations even worse. Your membership also gives you translation assistance as well as other benefits. More information and special rates for FITA members are available at www.medjetassist.com/fita. Questions? Contact Kim Park at kpark@fita.org. |
