weather facts, visit the site I feature at the end of this newsletter.

| UNITED ARAB EMIRATES Our Featured Country
Dubai, a city in the United Arab Emirates, has been called "the Hong
Kong of the Middle East" because of its booming economy. It is the
world's fastest-growing city, it has the world's second-busiest
airport, and the world's tallest and most expensive hotel. If you
want to find out more about Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, go to
the UAE page at AME Info ( http://www.ameinfo.com/news/UAE_Focus/ ).
AME Info has news and information about countries in the Middle East,
and this page is focused on the UAE. For background information,
click on "Country Guides" in the bottom left corner of the page, and
you can get more detailed information and links for any one of
fourteen countries.
You'll also find plenty of good research at the UAE Mini Portal
( http://fita.org/countries/uae.html ), a feature of the FITA Web
site. The UAE Mini Portal has an overview of the United Arab
Emirates, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc.,
plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes,
labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in the UAE.
Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for
market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics,
government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.
The UAE Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA
site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click
on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home
page ( http://www.fita.org ).
BEFORE YOU GO, VISIT TRANSITIONS ABROAD Resources for Expats
Anyone who's considering living abroad should visit the Transitions
Abroad ( http://www.transitionsabroad.com/listings/living/ ) site. This site is full of resources about living
abroad, but you'll find something useful here if you're just
traveling to another country, or even if you're just researching a
country for business opportunities. There are articles and links
about: home rentals, home exchanges, and real estate abroad;
financial matters; expatriate communities; schools; survival guides;
finding an apartment; finding a job; finding business opportunities;
researching a market (click on "Expatriate Resources by Country");
and much more. This site is written about American expatriates, but
there is plenty of useful information here no matter what country
you're from.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SEARCH ENGINES Learn to Search Effectively
Even in this age of glitzy, high-concept Web sites with videos, sound
files, animations, and all the other bells and whistles, there's
still a place for the simple, no-nonsense presentation. Phil
Bradley's Finding Information: Search Engines ( http://www.philb.com/whichengine.htm ) is about as plain a Web site as you can find, but
it's full of useful information. Phil has a list with links to dozens
of search engines, along with his description and evaluation of each
one. What's great about this site is that Phil has written it in
simple, non-geeky language. One side of the page says, "What do you
need to find, and what do you already know?", while the other side
gives Phil's choice of the best search engine for your needs. Scroll
down this page and you'll find a search engine for every possible
purpose (and probably some you didn't know about).
FAST ANSWERS AT WEATHER CONVERSION CALCULATORS Calculate Weather Conversions
I must not have paid attention in school when they taught
conversions, because I've never been very good at converting things
like Celsius to Fahrenheit. Good thing I found Weather Conversion
Calculators ( http://www.eustis.army.mil/WEATHER/Weather_Products/wxconversions.htm ), because this site helps me do all sorts of
calculations in seconds. You can convert temperatures, distances,
relative humidity, air pressure, weight, wind chill, speed, and even
cross/head/tail wind speeds, for you pilots out there. Even if you
only need to do a few simple calculations just to understand your
daily weather report, this site is very useful.
