Thailand was hit hard by the Asian Financial Crisis in the late 1990s, but it has made a strong recovery in the last ten years. In 2007 the economy grew by 4.5 percent, and exports have been at record levels in the last few years. The Thai economy is robust, and prospects look good for the immediate future. If this looks like a country you're interested in researching, a good place to start is Thailand's Board of Investment page ( http://www.boi.go.th/english/ ). This site is primarily concerned with investment in Thailand, but it has lots of useful information if you're interested in trade. You'll find statistics and demographics about Thailand, a guide to doing business in the country, legal information, news, business matchmaking, and links to government sites and organizations that promote trade.
You'll also find plenty of good research at the Thailand Mini Portal ( http://fita.org/countries/thailand.html ), a feature of the FITA Web site. The Thailand Mini Portal has an overview of Thailand, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in Thailand.
Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.
The Thailand Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page ( http://www.fita.org ).
STATE INSIGHTS GIVES YOU THE INSIDE STORY
Data about US States
I'm always on the lookout for Web sites with good information on countries, but there are also some useful sites about U.S. States. There's a new one from globalEdge? called State Insights ( http://globaledge.msu.edu/stateInsights/ ), and it's worth a look. You just click on a State and you'll find a detailed profile, including: demographics, history, economic data, foreign trade numbers, tax information, news stories, lists of Fortune 1000 corporations with headquarters in the State, links to government offices, business events listings, and more. Anyone who wants to research a U.S. State should bookmark this page.

Although many stocks have dropped sharply in the last six months, gold and silver prices have hit record highs.
