Hello International Traders! It's John McDonnell again, with more sites to help you get an edge on
your competitors in the area of global trade.
Saudi Arabia has made billions in the surge of oil prices, and it's
got money to spend on trade. I have a site in this issue that will
help you research this booming market. Plus, I found a free book that
has an excellent guide to international trade finance. If you exhibit
at trade shows or events, I found a site that will help you with all
your trade show needs. Finally, I found a search engine that is
completely safe for your kids to use -- and it's fun!
And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links ( http://fita.org/webindex/ ), which has a link library of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.
| SAUDI ARABIA Our Featured Country
The surge in oil prices in recent years has been a headache for many
countries, but a boon to oil producers like Saudi Arabia. The desert
kingdom is awash in oil revenues, to the point where it had a surplus
of US $47 billion in 2007, and that was actually a drop of 62 percent
from the year before. The government is using this extra money for a
building spree, creating seven new economic cities from scratch. There
are opportunities aplenty in Saudi Arabia for trade, and if you would
like to research them a good site to visit is SAMIRAD, the Saudi
Arabian Market Information Resource Directory (http://www.saudinf.com). This government site has Saudi Arabian history,
news, statistics, industry profiles, cultural information, business
directories, travel links, contacts, maps, a message board, and lots
of useful links.
You'll also find plenty of good research at the Saudi Arabia Mini
Portal ( http://fita.org/countries/saudi.html ), a feature of the FITA
Web site. The Saudi Arabia Mini Portal has an overview of Saudi
Arabia, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus
more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor
market indicators, and tips on doing business in Saudi Arabia.
Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for
market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics,
government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.
The Saudi Arabia Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the
FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just
click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA
home page ( http://www.fita.org ).

USE ASK KIDS FOR SAFE SEARCHING Internet Safety for Children
As a parent of four children, I'm concerned about their safety on the
Internet. The major search engines like Google and Yahoo have Safe
Search filters to screen out objectionable content, but you can never
be sure that something won't slip through. That's why I like Ask Kids (http://www.askkids.com
), which is a search engine designed for children from age 6 to 12. It
has a kid-friendly design, and offers age-appropriate search results.
Children can find lots of help for their homework here (under the
"Schoolhouse" category), and there are plenty of tools for finding
images, movies, games, and videos that are appropriate for kids. This
is one site I'm going to bookmark on my childrens' computer!
