International Trade Officer

Hello International Traders!

John McDonnell here, with more sites to help you succeed in global trade.

Peru has posted steady gains in GDP for a number of years, and it's a country worth investigating. I have two sites in this issue that will help you research the Peruvian economy. If you want to learn about countries in Asia, I have a site that will give you all the background data. Is the world financial crisis worrying you? Get expert information and analysis from a World Bank site I found. Finally, I have a site with links to medical information you can't find by using the major search engines.

And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links ( http://fita.org/webindex/ ), which has a link library of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.

PERU
Our Featured Country

The 21st century has been a good one for Peru so far, with its economy racking up 4 percent growth each year since 2002 and jumping to 7.5 percent in 2007. Last year it was 24th in the world for real GDP growth rate, and 61st for exports. If this sounds like a country you'd like to research further, here are two sites to visit: . Proinversion (http://www.proinversion.gob.pe/default.aspx?ARE=1&PFL=0), is the Peruvian private investment promotion agency. This site has lots of information about the Peruvian economy, plus data about specific industries like Agribusiness, Forestry, Textile & Fibers, and Services. It also has a calendar of events, useful links, a list of investment opportunities, regional information, and more. It's in English and Spanish. . The U.S. Commercial Service Guide to Peru (http://www.buyusa.gov/peru/en/). Click on "Doing Business In Peru" at this site and you'll find lots of useful information. An especially good resource is the Country Commercial Guide, which is a downloadable PDF document with 94 pages of information that will help businesspeople get started in trade with Peru.

The Peruvian USA Chamber of Commerce (http://www.peruvianchamber.org) is a FITA member association. Their website offer more resources about doing business with Peru.

A WEALTH OF INFORMATION AT ASIAN STUDIES WWW VIRTUAL LIBRARY
Asian Country Resources

I've written before about the WWW Virtual Library, which is a series of portals to information on the Web. One of the best is the Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library (http://coombs.anu.edu.au/WWWVL-AsianStudies.html). Published by the Australian National University, Canberra, it has a wealth of information about countries from Afghanistan to Vietnam. Each country has a separate portal, and you'll find expert information about the country's history, culture, religion, government, economy, political life, current events, geography, and much more. Most of these portals are hosted at university sites, so you know the information is credible, unbiased, and accurate.

GET UPDATES ON WORLD FINANCE AT CRISIS TALK
Real Prespective on the Crisis

If you're like me, you're still trying to figure out just what's happening with the global financial crisis that's in all the headlines. I'm no economist, but I want to at least have a grasp of what's happening, because it affects all of us. That's why I like Crisis Talk (http://crisistalk.worldbank.org), a blog from the World Bank that aims to keep readers updated on the developments in this unfolding crisis. Crisis Talk has news and information about specific countries and sectors, as well as on the global crisis response. It also features opinions on possible solutions, what the future will bring for the financial sector, and how the crisis affects the real economy. There is commentary from internationally-recognized experts, and enough information here that you'll want to visit regularly.

SEARCH THE INVISIBLE WEB FOR MEDICAL INFORMATION
Medical Info You Don't Find on Google

The "Invisible Web" is a part of the Internet that doesn't get indexed by the major search engines. For various reasons, these databases and archives are not accessible through search engines like Google and Yahoo, so you have to go to their home pages to do a search of their contents. You can find links to some of these sites at Medical Information On The Invisible Web (http://websearch.about.com/od/invisibleweb/a/medical.htm), an article at the About.com site. You'll find dozens of links to information-rich medical sites here, with some first-rate sites like The National Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, and the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention. This article is definitely worth bookmarking for future reference.
