Hello International Traders! John McDonnell here, with best wishes for 2009 and more sites to help you succeed in global trade.
Chile has trade agreements with dozens of countries, and it's a fertile
market for business. I have a site in this issue that will help you find
outstanding research on the Chilean market. Also, I have a site with links
to useful competitive intelligence sites. If you want science information,
I found a site with links to hundreds of U.S. government science-oriented
sites. Finally, I have a site that lets you use two search engines at once,
so you can find the best results.
And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links ( http://fita.org/webindex/ ), which has a link library of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.
| CHILE Our Featured Country
Chile's economy has been growing steadily since the early 1990s, and at
this point it has a lot to recommend it. Chile has low unemployment, strong
financial institutions, and a healthy trade profile (in 2007 it ranked 42nd
in the world for exports and 51st for imports). At last count Chile had 57
bilateral or regional trade agreements, more than any other country. If
this sounds like a country you'd like to research, go to Chileinfo.com (http://www.chileinfo.com). This is the Chilean Trade Commission's Web
site, and it has a lot of useful information. You'll find a profile of the
Chilean economy, trade statistics, information about Chilean industries,
articles & reports, an export directory, a trade show calendar, plus online
magazines about Chile's economy, culture, scenery, tourism, and more.
If that's not enough, you'll also find plenty of good research at the Chile
Mini Portal (http://fita.org/countries/chile.html), a feature of the FITA
Web site. The Chile Mini Portal has an overview of Chile, with facts about
the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about
the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing
business in Chile.
Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market
research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government
contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.
The Chile Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To
find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country
Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page (http://www.fita.org).

200 MILLION SCIENCE PAGES All You Need About Science
The U.S. government funds a lot of scientific research, and there's a
portal to this information at Science.gov (http://www.science.gov).
Science.gov lets you search 36 databases and 1,850 Web sites containing 200
million pages of science data, including research & development results.
You can search by keyword or browse the categories on the home page, which
include topics like Biotechnology, Energy, Food Safety, Health Care, Maps,
Space Technologies, and Veterinary Science, among others. When you click
through the categories you'll be amazed at the interesting sites you
discover. Certain sites and searches are featured every day, based on their
popularity or usefulness.
USE TWO SEARCH ENGINES AT ONCE Save Search Time
Now here's an interesting idea. Searchboth.com (http://us.searchboth.net)
lets you run a search in two places at once, so you can compare the
results. It's not just any two search engines, either -- Searchboth.com
lets you search on Google and Yahoo, or eBay and Amazon, or Dictionary.com
and Answers.com, or Orbitz and Travelocity, to name a few. If you want to
shop, book a flight, rent an apartment, find a job, look up the definition
of a word, or any of a number of other things, this site will let you
compare results from search engines that specialize in what you're looking
for.
