Hello International Traders!

John McDonnell here with four more useful sites to help your business.

Taiwan has one of the world's top 20 economies, and it has many opportunities for traders. I have a site in this issue that will help you get all the information you need to trade successfully with Taiwanese companies. Also, there are lots of business opportunities with countries that have trade agreements with the U.S., and I have a site where you can get the inside story on those trade agreements. Another site I found will help you locate people anywhere in the world. Finally, I have a site that will save you money by finding the lowest prices online for thousands of products.

And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links ( http://fita.org/webindex/ ), which has a link library of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.

TAIWAN
Our Featured Country

Taiwan has weathered its share of economic crises in the past 50 years and come out on top, so it's a good bet that it will come through the current global slowdown successfully. Taiwan has been among the world's top exporters for so long that it has a large trade surplus. It has a dynamic economy that has become increasingly privatized, and when the world economy recovers Taiwan will be right there with it. If this sounds like a country you want to research, go to the CENS.com Taiwan page (http://cens.com/cens/html/en/news/news_home.html). Here you'll find everything you need: breaking news, special reports, industry profiles, stock market data, a searchable database of Taiwanese companies, products, & trade shows, and much more. For information about the economy type in a keyword, then click on "General Economy" and "News" at the home page. And don't forget TaiwanTrade, a website developed and maintained by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). It is a complete directory of Taiwanese manufacturers, importers, exporters and trade events.

If that's not enough, you'll also find plenty of good research at the Taiwan Mini Portal (http://fita.org/countries/taiwan.html), a feature of the FITA Web site. The Taiwan Mini Portal has an overview of Taiwan, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in Taiwan.

Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.

The Taiwan Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page ( http://www.fita.org ).

ESSENTIAL INFO ABOUT U.S. TRADE AGREEMENTS
Summaries of US Trade Agreements

The United States now has free trade agreements with 14 countries, and three more are pending. These agreements impact thousands of businesses, so it's important to know the details about them. You can find out all you need to know at TradeAgreements.gov (http://www.tradeagreements.gov). There are reports, fact sheets, statistics, regulatory information, press releases, speeches -- there are even downloadable reports for every U.S. state, with import/export statistics involving each country that the U.S. has a trade agreement with. For anyone affected by these agreements, this is a site to bookmark.

FORTUNE MAGAZINE AND FITA TO OFFER A SPECIAL SECTION ON INTERNATIONAL TRADE
http://fita.org/fortune/sellsheet.html

Fortune Magazine has teamed with FITA on a special section in the June 8 issue titled "A Fresh Look at International Trade." To expose Fortune’s readers to what’s happening in Asia, Europe, South America, and elsewhere in the world—and to look at how the financial crisis and decisions in Washington may affect business—Fortune Custom Publishing, in partnership with FITA, is creating a special text-and-advertising section that asks:

  • Which finance companies, logistics companies, and other international trade service providers offer innovative solutions in the current environment?
  • Which emerging economies are going to be able to sustain some growth?
  • Where are trade barriers and regulations going to increase?
  • Which industries are already innovating in the way they do international trade?
  • Can fair trade and environmental protection help restore growth in international trade

This section will provide a unique opportunity to promote and showcase your organization to Fortune’s audience of business decision-makers—all in a clear, informative environment.  Be a sponsor and get your organization exposure to the world's top executives and business leaders.  Click here for information and contact details.

FIND PEOPLE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD WITH 123PEOPLE
White Pages for the World

People Search tools have been around since the early days of the Internet, but they're a lot more comprehensive now. I found a very good one at 123people (http://www.123people.com). You just type in the first and last names of the person you're searching for, and in an instant you'll have a list of images, videos, phone numbers, email addresses, social networking and Wikipedia profiles, and a whole lot more information relating to that person. The site claims that it searches "nearly every corner of the Web", and I can believe it, based on how much information it finds. You can search by country (Austria, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, UK, US), or the world. You can also add information to the search results, making them even more useful.

One thing everybody wants to do these days is save money. The way to do that is to use a comparison shopping search engine like Become (http://www.become.com). At Become, you type in your search term, or pick a category from the list, and then the fun starts. You get a list of products and you have the option to compare prices at multiple stores. If you see a price you like, just click on it and you can read all the product specifications, and buy it if you want. You can also have Become notify you when a price drops below a certain point.
