INDONESIA Our Featured Country
Indonesia is the world's 4th largest nation in terms of population and the largest economy in Southeast Asia. As a significant emerging market it offers many opportunities for outsourcing, product sales and investment.
Do you want to source from Indonesia but you don’t know where to start? Visit the National Agency for Export Development’s website to get some tips. Here you will find out about interesting sourcing opportunities in traditional industries such as textiles, footwear and electronics as well as auto parts, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, essential oils, jewelry, processed food, medical instruments and appliances
Indonesia’s import trade policy is quite liberal. As a WTO member, the government makes efforts to lower Customs duties, as well as reduce non-tariff barriers. Check out the US Commercial Service’s Country Commercial Guide for Indonesia for more information about import regulations and opportunities in Indonesia.
There are also many investment opportunities in Indonesia. The Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board and the World Bank’s FDI.net provide resources for researching FDI. Interesting sectors include chemicals and pharmaceuticals, paper and printing, transportation, storage, communication, food and construction. Perhaps the best potential can be found in infrastructure investment. There are fears of corruption and the lack of transparency. But the government is making major reforms that are improving the attractiveness of the country.
If that's not enough, you'll also find plenty of good research at the Indonesia Mini Portal, a feature of the FITA Web site. The Indonesia Mini Portal has an overview of Indonesia, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in Indonesia.
Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.
The Indonesia Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page.
