REALLY USEFUL SITES
LIBYA
Our Featured Country
www.libyaonline.com
Located in North Africa on the Mediterranean Sea, bordered by Algeria, Tunisia, Niger, Chad, Sudan and Egypt, Libya is one of the more prosperous economies in Africa. Generously endowed with energy resources, with one of the largest proven oil reserves in the world, and populated by a small number of inhabitants (around 6 million), the country is ranked by some measures as having the highest per capita GDP in Africa.
Since the government repudiated its weapons of mass destruction program in 2003, Libya has begun to respond to international pressure by adopting market reforms that liberalize its socialist-oriented economy, and many countries have re-established economic ties with the country.
Local production does not meet consumer demand and the country’s entire infrastructure is being redeveloped. Thus there are extensive opportunities for pharmaceutical and food imports, among other products, as well as infrastructure project investment and development. Infrastructure projects include agriculture development and water resource management. Companies that offer construction, desalinization, waste treatment and water recycling will find many opportunities for investment and participation in government funded projects. Libya also has great potential for tourism, which is still largely undeveloped.
For “all things Libya” take a look at Libyaonline. Here You can find government tenders, Laws and Regulations, News and much more.
Also don’t forget the website of the U.S. Commercial Service in Libya. The site gives extensive information about the market with news and business guides, and the Commercial Service programs conferences, trade missions and training. If that's not enough, you'll also find plenty of good research at the FITA Mini Portal of Libya, a feature of the FITA Web site. The FITA Mini Portal has an overview of the country, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in Libya.
The Libya Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page.
