APEC
Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation
www.apec.org
The United States has been chosen to host the 2011 Forum of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
There will be several events throughout the year, including ministerial meetings, activities for the private sector and the annual meeting of Asia-Pacific business leaders.
APEC is an intergovernmental forum dedicated to the promotion of free trade, investment, economic growth and development as well as cooperation in the Asia-Pacific. |

Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation |
|
The Forum brings together 21 countries, which together represent about 50% of world population, trade and GDP and a market of 2.7 billion consumers: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, USA and Vietnam. As the host of these events, the United States will give priority in the talks to strengthen regional economic integration, promotion of green growth that respects the environment and the convergence of regulatory policies. The issue is important since the members of APEC purchase 58% of U.S. exports and 7 of top 15 trading partners of the United States are APEC members.
As part of the Forum there was a series of events in Big Sky, Montana on the theme of internationalization of small and medium enterprises in APEC countries. The objective was to provide SMEs participating in the event a better understanding of the tools needed to successfully do business in the Asia-Pacific: financial and regulatory standards, business cooperation, etc. Particular emphasis was placed on green businesses, including the presentation of best practices of small and medium enterprises that have managed to combine economic development, resource use and environmental friendliness.

Burnish your credentials...
Datamyne blog anchor, Bill Armbruster, writes that, whether you’re hunting for a job or angling for promotion, getting trained in new fields burnishes your resume and your prospects. And, there is no need to interrupt a career to go back to school. |
There are ways to increase your knowledge of international trade that are less costly, more convenient, and may be more valuable in advancing your career. Bill provides examples here of the programs offered by trade organizations
...and let your employer bask in the glow.
Employers can benefit, too (which is why many foot the bill for continuing education). Bill counts the ways here, starting with more productive performance from more knowledgeable, better trained employees. Improved morale and loyalty from employees who appreciate the opportunity to advance their education are less tangible benefits, but they contribute to results, such as reduced turnover.
Here’s a no-cost way to expand your knowledge of the latest techniques for using trade data in market research or sourcing applications and get a FREE custom research report that will give you (and your employer) insight into the product or market of your choice.
