United Arab Emirates
A Gateway to the Middle East and North African markets
The U.S. Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) recently visited the USA Regional Trade Center (USARTC).
This visit was an opportunity to evaluate the role of the institution, which has been in operation since November 2011, for the development of business opportunities for U.S. companies in the Gulf region. |

Some of the objectives of the USARTC include:
• The organization of events to publicize the products and services to American countries in the region;
• Facilitating trade between U.S. SMEs and local U.A.E. SMEs;
• Cultural understanding between the U.S. and the Arab world;
• The increase in bilateral trade between the U.S. and the U.A.E.
The U.A.E. is an important market for the United States: they are the twentieth largest trade partner, attracting about 1% of total U.S. exports. Trade between the two countries reached a record $18.5 billion (USD) in 2011, thanks to the dynamism of the manufacturing, infrastructure and new technologies sectors. The U.S. exported nearly $16 billion of goods to the U.A.E. in 2011, an increase of 26% compared to 2010. The U.A.E. exported nearly $2.5 billion of goods to the United States, i.e. more than double the total value of exports destined for the Emirates from the United States in 2010.
The U.A.E. is now the largest export market of the United States in the Arab world. They are a key destination for U.S. products in the Middle East and North Africa by acting as a gateway and hub to other markets in the region. Real business opportunities exist in diverse areas such as transport, tourism, business services, education and health. Companies wishing to invest in the U.A.E. can already count on a network of over 700 U.S. companies operating in the country and nearly 30,000 U.S. citizens who settled in the U.A.E. in recent years.
