OUR FEATURED COUNTRY: Egypt
On 11 November, a US trade delegation composed of representatives from over 60 companies visited Cairo, Egypt for talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi about business and investment opportunities in the country.

The Egyptian President recently launched an economic development plan aimed at stimulating the economy through the development of industry and agriculture as well as attracting foreign investment. Many infrastructure projects have been launched, including the proposed nuclear power plant at El-Dabaa, the launch of Emaar Square Mall and the establishment of a new road network.

According to experts, although the Egyptian economy has suffered since the uprisings of 2011, foreign investments in Egypt have remained relatively stable and the country is expected to show economic growth of around 2.8% in 2014, according to the IMF. In 2013 the United States was the third largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country, with 6% of total foreign investment coming into Egypt (nearly USD 10 billion). The same year, the United States exported more than $5 billion of goods to Egypt, making the country the third largest export market for the United States in Africa and 43rd in the world. The main Egyptian imports from the US are oilseeds and cereals, machinery and computers, mineral fuels, wax and oil. As for US imports from Egypt, they reached $1.6 billion in 2013. The United States is now the sixth biggest customer of Egypt and its third largest supplier.

Among the reasons for more business opportunities in Egypt are improvements to the business environment (both attractive tax incentives and a reformed regulatory environment) and the liberalization of electricity prices.
