Dr. Denise Dimon has been with the University of San Diego's School of Business Administration for 20 years. Currently, Dr. Dimon is Professor of Economics and Executive Director of the Ahlers Center for International Business at the University of San Diego. Dr. Dimon employs a leadership style that solicits perspectives and expectations of employees, students, colleagues and the international business community in San Diego and abroad. Dr. Dimon uses this feedback to creatively develop new experiences for others. Her prescient diagnostic skills have helped in identifying and developing new forms of international opportunities for both students and faculty. Dr. Dimon is a leader in promoting global interaction between business and academia spanning four continents.

Dr. Dimon's dynamic personality, renowned scholarship, and leadership in global business practices have served to strengthen the San Diego business community's international role. Her contributions are vital to the San Diego international trade community in laying the educational groundwork that will make San Diego the gateway for global business in the 21st century. Since her arrival at the University of San Diego, Dr. Dimon has been instrumental in helping to build the international business programs with activities for faculty, students, and the San Diego business and trade community. Dr. Dimon has developed a wide variety of partnerships with other academic institutions in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Italy, France, Germany, Spain and China, encouraging global interaction among students and faculty.

Dr. Dimon, in her role as Executive Director of the Ahlers Center for International Business, has used her leadership skills to increase the Center's activities as well as its global reputation. For example, Dr. Dimon designed the study abroad program so that it draws participants not only from the University of San Diego, but other leading graduate business programs including Santa Clara University, Duke University, Boston College and The Drucker School of Management. This unique program allows working professionals the opportunity to study international business and trade practices in Europe, Latin America and Asia. The study-abroad program has not only internationalized hundreds of students but also increased the international thrust and quality of USD's business education.

Dr. Dimon has provided opportunity for faculty from the School of Business Administration to teach abroad, enriching their international experiences. In San Diego she has arranged for visiting international faculty to have the opportunity to interact with University of San Diego students and faculty.

Dr. Dimon has an active agenda of teaching, research and professional service. She was selected for a Fulbright Scholarship in both Uruguay and Argentina and has been a distinguished international visiting faculty member at ITESM in Monterrey, Mexico for the past 6 years. In addition, she serves on the advisory board of CLADEA (Latin American Council of Schools of Business) and is a member of the Academic Council for El Instituto Para El Desarrollo Empresarial de la Argentina (IDEA), Buenos Aires, Argentina.

While serving as Executive Director of the Business Association of Latin American Studies (BALAS) for almost ten years, Dr. Dimon led the organization's growth from 150 members to 700 members with representation from 24 countries. This organization brings together academic scholars and business practitioners who all share an interest in the business and economic environment of Latin America. This past spring, Dr. Dimon arranged and hosted the International Conference for BALAS in San Diego. Dr. Dimon established and served as the first Managing Editor of the quarterly journal Latin American Business Review. In addition, she is the Director and Founder of the Latin American Network (LAN) that publishes and distributes new research on Latin America, via the Internet, to over 5,000 scholars worldwide.

One of Dr. Dimon's primary goals has been to support development and awareness of European, Latin America and Asian business and trade practices within the San Diego international business community. Dr. Dimon has demonstrated leadership skills by initiating a model program for business executives from Brazil and Germany to visit San Diego and share their experiences with the San Diego international business community. This mutually beneficial environment provides the participants with the opportunity to interact and create global connections.

Dr. Denise Dimon is an excellent role model for women and men interested in international business and trade. She inspires them with her highly desirable combination of leadership skills, unlimited energy and risk taking style. These entrepreneurial skills not only have provided Dr. Dimon with strategies for developing an innovative and successful international business program at the university but also have served to further internationalize the San Diego business community.
